Government of Canada's investment of $60,000 assists new business's expansion

With the help of a $60,000 investment from the Government of Canada, the Luxorama Group, a company that specializes in the manufacturing of kitchen cupboards, will create 31 sustainable new jobs in the Laurentides Region.

The funding was announced today by the Honourable Alfonso Gagliano, Minister of Public Works and Government Services, on behalf of the Honourable Jane Stewart, Minister of Human Resources Development Canada.

The company will be able to concentrate on the manufacturing of cupboard doors using white birch, a species of wood that grows in the Lac St-Jean area and in northern Ontario. This expansion project will create jobs for machine operators, assemblers, sanders, painters and handlers, among others.

The current project is a concrete example of the Government of Canada's commitment, said Minister Gagliano. Projects of this kind help to revitalize the labour market.

The Government of Canada is participating in this project in partnership with the private sector. Human Resources Development Canada is contributing $60,000 under the Canada Jobs Fund and the other partners will provide the remaining amount for completion of this $160,000 project.

The Canada Jobs Fund is a $110-million-per-year permanent program, which focuses on economic growth and employment in communities with high unemployment rates, particularly those located in rural, coastal and northern regions. This fund builds on the success achieved through the Transitional Jobs Fund, a three-year job creation program, which created approximately 30,000 new jobs through over 1,000 projects across Canada.

In collaboration with the private sector, other levels of government and regional economic development agencies, the Government of Canada is investing, through the Canada Jobs Fund, in the creation of long-term jobs. Project proposals must meet program criteria and be approved by the various partners and the provincial or territorial government. This program is part of the Government of Canada's targeted plan to foster job creation and economic growth in key sectors.
