Illy's Can-Do Attitude
Always the innovator and inventor, illycaffè , the world's quality coffee leader, has proved that it can improve on, well, its can. The company has just introduced new can packaging that combines improved functionality with a modern, streamlined look. The improved easy open system with a screw-off lid allows for easier opening and closing of the can, which better preserves the coffee in a pressurized atmosphere, protecting its precious aroma and preventing it from deteriorating over time.
The distinctive, contemporary design of the new can emphasizes illycaffe's quest for excellence and passion for quality in all facets. Together, the purity of the metal and the linear form of the container call attention to its contents. It evokes the world of illycaffè , where attention to quality and harmony are paramount. Illy manufactures its own cans-creating a factory within a factory. This is yet another quality directive-one of 114 controls that illy implements on the way from the coffee plantation to your cup.
It took months of work by 30 continuously dedicated personnel, two new production lines, precision Swiss-German machinery, (modified and improved in illy's own Italian way) to create this elegant container. The new can is taller and thinner, fitting better in crowded kitchen cupboards and more comfortably in the hand.
In keeping with the company tradition that dates back to 1933, illy has stressed innovation in order to make one of the most important, small, daily pleasures of life even more enjoyable.
Illy produces a single, unique blend of coffee, guaranteeing a consistent taste and aroma every time. Without pressurization, coffee quality starts to erode after just 9 days. So illy developed and patented special nitrogen pressurized method to keep coffee fresh for up to two years while enhancing the complexity of its flavor. Unlike vacuum packing, which takes air out creating negative pressure, illy's system creates positive pressure using the inert gas nitrogen. This method actually forces the key aromas back into the coffee.
Open a can of illy, and it is the sweet, almost chocolaty aroma that first entices. The previous can design required the home user to puncture the top of the can releasing the pressure before pulling the tab. Failure to do this could leave one covered with a fine residue of coffee. The new can is designed to eliminate this step, while still delivering the same fine and fragrant brew.
