Lewis and Clark, Alive and Cooking
Nearly 200 years ago, the American west was discovered by Meriwether Lewis and William Clark. To celebrate the bicentennial of their 1803 expedition, Camp Chef has produced a commemorative edition series of Lewis and Clark skillets and Dutch ovens.
The purpose of the Lewis and Clark outdoor cooking equipment is to rekindle the spirit of the Old West, said Guy Perkins, a Camp Chef representative. And nothing expresses the feeling of the Old West like cooking in a cast iron Dutch oven or skillet.
Although the skillets and Dutch ovens carry the name of Lewis and Clark, there is much more to this commemorative edition of outdoor cooking equipment. Each of the cast iron skillets and Dutch ovens are designed to offer chefs the maximum amount of comfort possible. This begins with the EZ finish surface, which creates and holds a non-stick surface easily and quickly.
In addition to the non-stick surface, said Perkins, the skillets and Dutch ovens come with their own unique qualities that Camp Chef believes Lewis and Clark would have traveled miles to use.
When people think of cooking big meals outdoors, all to often they remember the difficulty of handling and cleaning the equipment. That's why we created the Lewis and Clark edition, to make outdoor cooking a memorable experience, Perkins said.
For maximum comfort and ease while cooking, Camp Chef designed the commemorative skillets with an ergonomic non-slip handle, accompanied by a stabilizing support tab directly opposite of the handle. The skillet is also designed with two convenient pour spouts, which assist in serving and cleaning.
The Dutch ovens are also designed with numerous qualities, which make outdoor cooking simpler. Along with the EZ finish, Lewis and Clark Dutch ovens come with a deep dish lid, increasing air flow inside the pot for evenly cooked food. With its stabilizing three legs, the deep dish lid also doubles as a serving dish or skillet.
And now, due to the thermometer channel on the side of the Dutch oven, a cook can check the temperature of the food without removing the lid. But when the food is finished, lifting the hot lid is done easily by using the lifting tool that is included with the oven.
The features of the Lewis and Clark commemorative Dutch ovens and skillets really do improve outdoor cooking for those cooking enthusiasts, said Marla Rawlings, expert outdoor chef.
If Lewis and Clark were around today, they would be proud to have their name on these commemorative products, she said. I'm sure they'd also wish Camp Chef was around 200 years ago.
